How to make the topic page

The first thing you need to do to make a new blog, or topic area, on this wiki, is to make the "topic page" for that blog.

This is a single page which is has links to the other pages on the web site that have information on this topic.

To make a new topic page, you need to follow these steps:

  • decide on a topic name
  • create the link for the page, on the Front Page
  • click on the link, to create the page
    • add a description of this topic
  • add a list of links to other pages in this topic area
  • save the page

Decide on a topic name [edit section]

Decide the title of the topic area that you want to write about. This should be a single word or a few words that describe the topic.

Create the link to the topic page [edit section]

Go to the Front Page, and find the section named "Blogs on this site". There should be the words "Edit section" (written in blue) to the right of this heading. Click on the words "Edit section", and an edit window should appear.

You should see a list of current topic areas, with each topic area consisting of a line of text with:

  • a single space
  • an asterisk
  • the topic title, surrounded by double-square-brackets
  • a description of the topic

Make a line like that for your topic, by indenting one space, typing an asterisk, the link for your page (the title surrounded by square brackets), and a description of your topic.

When you are done, click on the "Save" button beneath the edit box.

click on the link [edit section]

When the page is saved, your title should appear in the list, and it should be clickable.

Click on the link to your topic, and the system should show you an edit window again, with the words:

      Could not find page "..."
      You can create the page now by editing the following:
followed by an empty box.

Type a description of your topic into the box.

add a list of links to other pages in this topic area [edit section]

You can include a list of links to the articles for your topic.

This article, or sub-topic, list should consist of the titles, surrounded by double-square brackets, and preceded by a single-space and asterisk.

Here is an example of what you might put on the page, for a list of sub-topics:

     * [[sub-topic 1]]
     * [[sub-topic 2]]
     * [[yet another sub-topic]]

save the page [edit section]

Save the page, by clicking on the "Save" button at the bottom of the edit box.
