On Earth most of the rocks shooting through space and coming toward our planet burn up in the Earth's air before they hit the ground. But since the moon has no air, the space rock, pebbles and dust hit the ground going very fast (these are called meteorites). The moon hotel is covered in dirt to protect it from meteorites, and to keep it a good temperature.

When we got to the moon hotel, we got off the rover, and went inside through another airlock, which keeps all the air inside the hotel.
We took off our space suits and saw where we would live for
the next few days.
