There is no air on the moon, and some places on the moon are very hot or very cold. In order to go outside the space ship, we had to get into space suits. These are special clothes that protect us from heat and cold, and provide air so we can breathe.

After we put on our suits, we went through the airlock, which is a room that they remove the air from, so they can open the door of the space ship to the outside.
